The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) says the continued postponement of the Tax Payer’s Identification Number (TPIN) registration deadline is due to non compliance by citizens to register.
ZRA Public Relations Manager Topsy Sikalinda said the authority has put up a number of measures to ensure that more people register.
We have opened offices at shopping malls and service centers to get closer to the tax payers ,” he said.
Mr. Sikalinda said the authority’s new corporate strategy that will run from 2019 to 2021 includes improved corporate compliance, improved customer experience and an improved profit efficiency.
He also revealed that ZRA is working with the Ministry of General Education to ensure that young people are taught the importance of paying tax.
We are working with the Ministry of Education particularly the Curriculum Development Centre to include tax education as part of the new curriculum ,” he said.
After the introduction of the law requiring every bank account holder to have a TPIN in 2017, ZRA set 3rd March as deadline for registration.
However, the authority extended the exercise to June 30, 2018, then December 31, 2018 and now June 30, 2019.
