DELIMITATION PROCESS TO MAKE VOTING CONVENIENT, ECZ CHAIR

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) yesterday commenced the 10th delimitation of constituencies, wards and polling districts in Lusaka province.

In a speech by ECZ chairperson, Justice Esau Chulu stated that the delimitation exercise is an opportunity for the commission to realign some of the polling district boundaries and make them convenient for the electorate.

Mr. Chulu added that this exercise will pave the way for a sound register of voters and promote easy election administration in terms of personnel and logistical arrangements.

This year’s delimitation sitting was held at Mulungushi conference center from 9 to 10 December under the theme “Not leaving anyone behind, promoting your right to vote through delimitation.”

Meanwhile, representatives from various districts in Lusaka province such as Luangwa, Rufunsa, and Chongwe have given submissions to ECZ concerning the way in which the districts should be delimitated.

The representatives also emphasized the need for an increment in the number of constituencies in order to conduct free and fair elections.
