The plan is still in its conceptual stage as the infrastructure development committee and the resident engineer are yet to finalise the quotations for the project THE University of Zambia (UNZA) Sports Council has disclosed a plan of developing select sports infrastructure at UNZA Great East Road Main Campus.
The initiative is still in its conceptual stage as the infrastructure development committee and the resident engineer are yet to finalise the quotations for the project.
Speaking in an interview with the Lusaka star, University of Zambia Student Union (UNZASU) sports secretary Nasho Banda said UNZA sports council had initiated a plan to develop the dilapidated sports infrastructure at the institution.
“We are planning to erect terraces at the Goma sports fields that will allow students to watch their games with comfort because standing during games discourage them from passionately following sports activities,” he said.
Banda added that the plan was to also rehabilitate the school tennis courts which had been dormant for a long time.
Meanwhile, UNZA Sports and Recreation Officer Mwape Nshimbi disclosed that there were further plans to improve the basketball court.
“These plans include acquiring a digital score board and putting in place an adjustable floor that can be adjusted when the sports hall is being used for exams,” he said.
The recreation officer disclosed that the council was using maintenance funds to facilitate the project as the sports and recreation funds were insufficient.
The dates of when the constructions would begin will be announced after the quotations have been approved by UNZA Vice Chancellor.
