KAMANGA SALUTES SHIPOLOPOLO

Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) President Andrew Kamanga has congratulated the Zambia Women National Team (Shipolopolo) for qualifying to the Ghana 2018 Africa Women Championship.

In a statement released by FAZ on Monday, Kamanga said FAZ would ensure that the Women National team gets the necessary support before heading to the tournament in Ghana.

Shipolopolo qualified to the African Women’s Championship after beating Zimbabwe on a 2-1 score line through Hellen Chanda and Barbara Banda to overturn the tie in their favour after losing the first leg at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka On Wednesday.

The tournament which will include eight teams will run from November 17th to the 1st of December.

Kamanga  also extended his congratulatory messages to Chipolopolo for emerging runners up at the just ended COSAFA Castle Cup Senior Challenge.

He added that  FAZ Executive Committee was proud of the achievement made by both teams and their efforts were a sign of development in the local game.

Chipolopolo   suffered a setback on Saturday when they were beaten by 4 goals-2 by neighbours Zimbabwe who were eventually crowned Council of Southern African Football Association (COSAFA) 2018 Champions.

The Chipolopolo surrendered a 2-1 lead two minutes from the final whistle after Zimbabwean striker Karma Billiat equalized for the Warriors.

The Warriors eventually took the lead in extra time with two goals coming through from Mamelodi Sundowns striker Karma Billiat.

Kamanga however commended Chipolopolo and urged the players to use the experience from COSAFA to compete for the limited places in the AFCON team with qualifiers restarting in September.
