UNZASU president condemns govt “inefficiency” in running learning institutions

University of Zambia Students Union (UNZASU) President Martin Muluya has charged that government has failed to effectively run public tertiary learning institutions. University of Zambia Students Union (UNZASU) President Martin Muluya has charged that government has failed to effectively run public tertiary learning institutions.

Mr. Muluya said the ministry of education has failed to deliver the needs of students from various public learning institutions.

In an interview with the Lusaka star, Mr. Muluya said the Minister of Education, Michael Kaingu, has been ineffective in performing his duties as far as tertiary education is concerned.

The UNZASU President  explained that it is not only the University of Zambia that has faced difficulties the government has been unable to solve promptly.

He lamented that the ministry of eductaion decision making process takes long much to the disturbance of academic calenders in learning institutions.

“The Copperbelt University had problems which took long to be solved and led to the closure of the institution. Mulungushi University equally had a closure at some point due to government's negligence towards learning institutions.” he stated.

Meanwhile, Mr. Muluya  dismissed assertions that the students violently protested over their withheld results.

The UNZASU President ,however, said the students merely blocked the Great East Road so as to express their  grievance over the delayed results.

He said it is not fair for the students to be dragged into the University of Zambia Lecturers and Researchers Union (UNZALARU)-government clash.

He urged the government to negotiate with UNZALARU to  release the results so that the school opens on time.
