A Sports Analyst has commended the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) for launching a national cup competition for clubs in lower divisions.
The competition, which will include clubs from all 10 provinces, aims to boost grassroots football and provide an opportunity for teams to potentially break into the Super League.
In an interview with Lusaka Star, Patson Kawewe expressed confidence that FAZ will handle the initiative with the seriousness it deserves, ensuring that football continues to be played fairly on the pitch.
“I am confident that FAZ will handle the issue with the seriousness it deserves, and our football will continue to be played fairly on the pitch,” Kawewe said.
He emphasized that match fixtures must be handled seriously without further delay.
Meanwhile another Sports Analyst, Tony Nkoma, welcomed the launch, stating that it will enable the country to discover more talent to compete at the national level and reduce dependence on the ABSA Cup, which only features six Premier League teams.
However, he urged FAZ to back its words with adequate funding, as lower divisions already face facility and financial challenges.
“I would urge FAZ and the entire administration to ensure the newly introduced cup has criteria that allow all teams in the National League to participate,” Nkoma said.
