Zambian boxer Esther Phiri is gearing up for her last match in the ring, facing South African boxer Almedia Sandra.
In an interview, Esther Phiri’s Manager, Gift Phiri, said she’s undergoing intense training in preparation for the match.
Phiri expressed confidence in the ongoing training and acknowledged Esther’s progress after a period away from the ring.
“So far, the preparations are looking very sharp. Esther is looking very fit and has hit the weight we were targeting down from 87kg to 72kg,” he said.
Meanwhile a Sports Analyst Lucky Chama said expectations are low from the two boxers, given their age and reduced strength, but believes upcoming boxers will learn from the match.
“When two legends come together in the ring, they’ll show the upcoming boxers one or two things,” Chama said.
He added that boxing has brought Zambia numerous medals and needs investment, the anticipation for the match should leave Zambians feeling it’s worth watching, as the two are icons in the sport.
The match, scheduled for March 27, 2026, will be broadcast on Diamond TV. It’s set as an exhibition, focusing on the two boxing legends, and will kick off with upcoming boxers.
