Zambia’s Music Industry Lacks Competition says- 76 drums

Zambian music producer and singer Muzamba Siadizya, popularly known as 76 Drums, has stated that there is no competition in Zambia’s music industry.

According to Siadizya, the increasing number of artists releasing albums reflects consistency, business growth, and a collective effort to expand the sector.

Speaking in an interview with Lusaka Star, Siadizya said producing an album is more significant than releasing a single, as it helps artists build a strong and lasting catalogue.

“Especially when it comes to performing at shows, an album helps an artist deliver a better performance,” Siadizya  said.

He noted that more frequent album releases indicate that artists are treating music as a business and working to develop the industry, rather than competing against one another.

Siadizya noted that this gives artists an advantage, as having multiple songs already being streamed makes their work easier and more impactful.

“An album shows how serious an artist is, and it also creates a better picture for clients to gain more interest in what they have done,” he said.

“I do not feel pressured when other artists release albums, because artists operate under different circumstances and capacities,” he said.

Meanwhile, an upcoming artist Gabriel Tembo, known by his stage name Gabby GT said, musicians should view both albums and singles not just as creative outputs, but as business ventures.

He explained that there is no real competition among artists releasing albums, as each musician connects with a different audience.

He added that the growing trend of album releases is ultimately beneficial to the industry.
