The 2026 Men’s Zone Six International Handball Confederation Trophy tournament has commenced, with eight countries participating at the Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) in Lusaka, Zambia.
The tournament, which began on April 28 and ends on May 3, has brought together U-17 and U-20 teams. The participating countries are South Africa, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Lesotho, Eswatini, and hosts Zambia.
Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Youth, Sport and Arts, Hon. Elvis Nkandu, Acting Director of Sports Gibson Muyaule said the tournament is important because it helps young players grow and also brings countries together.
“Government does not view sports as merely recreational but as a key factor for job opportunities, economic growth, and social transformation to achieve the 8th National Development Plan,” Muyaule said.
Meanwhile, National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) President Alfred Foloko commended the organisers for promoting good sportsmanship.
“I would like to thank the Handball Association of Zambia for putting this tournament together and helping Zambia host such an important event,” he said.
And OYDC Acting Chief Executive Officer Benjamin Tembo welcomed the teams and wished them the best in the ongoing tournament.
“We are happy to host everyone here in Zambia. This is a good chance for players to show what they can do and learn more,” Tembo said.
