University of Zambia UNZA Clinic, in partnership with the Counselling Centre, Dean of Students, and UNZA Security, has embarked on a one-month door-to-door campaign to address students’ problems and promote support services.
UNZA Clinic Acting Nurse Officer, Andrew Lungu, said the initiative would help students better understand and access health, counselling, and other support services around campus.
“The clinic is committed to walking with students throughout their academic journey, and we encourage them not to neglect their well-being,” Mr. Lungu said in an interview with Lusaka Star.
UNZA Counselling Centre Manager, Nkhoma Mweene, called on students to utilize the centre, whether they need someone to talk to, academic guidance, or mental health support.
“The sensitization campaign is part of the University’s broader efforts to promote student wellness and ensure that every learner has access to the support needed for both academic and personal success,” said Ms. Mweene.
She emphasized the need for students to remain focused, prioritize their mental health, and seek help when needed.
UNZA Student Peer Educator, Gabriel Tembo, emphasized the significance of the campaign, noting that many students silently struggle with stress, anxiety, and academic pressure.
“This campaign directly connects students with professionals who can offer counselling, health advice, and emotional support,” Mr. Tembo said.
“It also helps reduce the stigma around seeking help by normalizing mental health conversations in students’ personal spaces.”
