African Youth Games to decide Africa’s Nanjing 2014 swimmers

Three swimmers are expected to represent Zambia at the African Youth Games slated for the 22nd to 31st may, 2014 The Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) assistant swimming coach, Chishala Mukuka has confirmed that the Africa Youth games in Botswana will be used to determine which swimmers will represent the country and the continent at the Nanjing Youth Olympics in China .

Three swimmers are expected to represent Zambia at the youth games slated for the 22nd to 31st may, 2014.

Speaking in an interview with the Lusaka Star, Chishala Mukuka said that the swimmers had to perform well in the African Youth games in order for them to book their place in Nanjing.

Chishala added that preparations ahead of the Nanjing Youth Olympic Games were underway adding that trainings had intensified.

“In order for us to pick the swimmers to represent Zambia at Africa Youth Games, we have to put up a competitive calendar and this will also help see the team through to the long awaited Nanjing Youth Olympics,” he said.

Meanwhile, Chishala disclosed that the three Zambian swimmers who were the favourites to represent Zambia in the Africa youth games were Tilka Pajlk, Ralf Goveia and Alex Axiotis.

He said that the selected swimmers were to be selected based on their best finishing time and not the swimming galas that they had taken part in.
