President Hakainde Hichilema is today expected in Chililabombwe on the Copperbelt, where he will officiate at the recommissioning of the Lubambe deep shaft at Lubambe Mine.
Chief Government Spokesperson, Cornelius Mweetwa said two deep shafts at the mine are earmarked for commissioning and the commencement of construction.
Speaking during a press briefing in Choma yesterday, Mr. Mweetwa said the development highlights the renewed confidence and commitment by the business community to invest in Zambia’s mining sector.
“It one of the Milestones that will add value to the economy of the country given that with more production of copper, we expect exports to rise which will strengthen foreign exchange,” he said.
The minister said when mines open thousands of jobs will be created for the people of Copperbelt.
“These investments is a demonstration of the confidence of the mining sector and the business community has in the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema.
He added that the President is expected to return to Choma thereafter to continue his working tour of Southern Province.
