NATIONAL Arts Council chairperson, Mulenga Kapwepwe says association is working towards setting up a national film fund that will help local film makers finance their projects and encourage them produce more films.
NATIONAL Arts Council chairperson Mulenga Kapwepwe has said her association is working towards setting up a national film fund.
Ms. Kapwepwe says the film fund will help local film makers finance their projects and encourage them produce more films.
She was speaking at the first ever Annual Christian Independent Film Makers Festival 2013 (ACIF) which was held at Freshview cinemas in Lusaka recently.
Speaking at the same occasion, Kangwa Chileshe, a local actor and pastor who is popularly known for his role in Kabanana as Jason; said movies are a tool for making an impact on young people.
He further explained that acting is challenging in Zambia; especially as a christian in film because of the various stereotypes that people have on actors.
“People usually ask me about my roles in Kabanana; questioning why a pastor like me can act in secular productions,” Pastor Chileshe said.
However, Chileshe was quick to point out that there was need for a positive mindset amongst Zambians if the movie industry was to develop.
The event was organized by HansK Media of South Africa and local filmmakers.
The event also saw other notables like actor Charles Simusokwe and Love Games writer Becky Ngoma among others.
