The Zambia Soccer Fans Association president Pastor Peter Makembo has described the situation as very disappointing noting that such a development would quash motivation levels among the shepolopolo camp. THE Zambia Sports Fans Associations (ZSFA) has expressed disappointment over the Football Association of Zambia’s (FAZ) failure to pay the Zambia National Women’s soccer team allowances in full following their early exist from the just ended Africa Women Championship (AWC).
In an interview with the Lusaka star, ZSFA president Pastor Peter Makembo said the failure by FAZ to pay players their full allowances could force some of them to resign adding that such a move would hinder the development of women soccer in the country.
“FAZ has not paid the players their Africa Women Championship allowances in full and this might just make some of the players angry and end up resigning,” he said.
Makembo described the situation as very disappointing noting that such a development would quash motivation levels amongst the players.
“The players were supposed to be paid K12, 000 after the tournament but they only received K1, 500.
“FAZ must see how best they can help the players so that they build on the football legacy that the late president has left, that is to develop sports in the country,” he lamented.
Makembo was quick to note that FAZ should consider putting up measures that could help develop women soccer in the country.
Meanwhile, a soccer analyst Chipili Makasa charged that more attention and resources needed to be channeled towards the development of women soccer in the country.
“FAZ should come up with a talent identification program for females throughout the country to identify real talent as most players in the female soccer team are Lusaka based. They should also consider adjusting the women soccer team allowances upwards as a way of motivating the players.
Makasa has since urged FAZ to work on the women soccer team coaching staff and consider putting a male coach in charge.
