Education Minister Douglas Siakalima has implored the University of Zambia (UNZA) students to be ambassadors in the reconfiguration of the country.
Speaking when he visited students at Great East Road Campus, Siakalima said the students are important figures of society who need to use their intellectual advantage to repair the damages that were caused to the country.
Siakalima said the damages that were caused to the nation are immense, hence students need to be cadres of change and reconfiguration of Zambia to make it a better society again.
“I think we have agreed that they will be ambassadors to go and reconfigure Zambia because the damage is immense,” Siakalima said.
Meanwhile, UNZA Dean of Students John Munkombwe encouraged students to work hard and develop the institution, adding that once UNZA is developed other sections of society can be developed as well.
He also discouraged students against the abuse of drugs, saying drugs damage both their bodies and mind.
“You are agents of change, so you should change that behavior, because you are destroying yourselves in character and in body,” Munkombwe urged.
And the University of Zambia Students Union (UNZASU) President Chandra Choongo, thanked the minister for the visit, saying it shows that government is concerned about the welfare of the students at UNZA and assuring the students that government is aware of the challenges that students are facing.
“We appreciate his visit because it was not announced which means it gave him a true picture of what is happening on the ground,” Choongo said.
Choongo further called on students to take care of their own environment by being security conscious and protecting the facilities they utilize during their stay at the institution.
