MMA Star promises fireworks in SA Showdown

Zambian Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter Gilbert Ndlovu is stepping back into the octagon on July 5, after recovering from an injury sustained at the 2025 MMA Africa Championships.

Lusaka Star reporter Thomas Nyirenda reports that Ndlovu said he is not just healed, but hungry to compete again.

“Missing the tournament in Angola was heartbreaking and disappointing, but it gave me time to reflect, rebuild, and come back smarter,” he said in an interview with the Lusaka Star.

Ndlovu is set to face South African wrestling powerhouse Slade “Shadowshot” in Pretoria at Versus Fight Night 14 on July 5, 2025.

“This fight is not just about winning, it’s about showing my strength and skill, and also reminding everyone what I’m capable of as a fighter,” he added.

Ndlovu stated that he has studied his opponent, Slade, and described him as “dangerous.”

“I have fought good wrestlers before and always found a way to win, and I will definitely find a way to win this fight as well,” he emphasised.

Ndlovu further said that he is hopeful he will reignite his ascent in African MMA when he fights in Pretoria.
