Zambia representatives in CAF Club competitions Zesco United and Zanaco FC are through to the group stages of the CAF Confederations cup and the CAF Champions league competition respectively.
Zanaco registered a goalless draw with Young Africans of Tanzania to qualify to a group stage of CAF Champions’ league via a 1-nil aggregate score.
And last year’s CAF Champions league semi- finalist Zesco United defeated les Mesenja of Burundi 4-2 on goal aggregate to progress to the CAF Confederations cup.
Meanwhile FAZ president Andrew Kamanga has congratulated the two teams for making it to the CAF Club competition’s group stages.
He stated that while the nation was still beaming with pride and joy of winning the Under U-20 AFCON, Zesco United and Zanaco have equally lifted the country’s spirit with the duo’s successful qualification to the next stage of CAF Club Competitions.
“This is a good development, two of our big teams are progressing into group stage,” Kamanga said.
Kamanga further stated that, CAF had increased the number of teams in the CAF Champions’ league group stages from the normal eight to sixteen teams that will be drawn in groups of four.
The FAZ president stated that he was confident that the two teams will qualify to the quarter finals and eventually the semi-final provided that they prepare adequately.
