Inter Company relay commence

The 16th inter company rely has commenced and at least 1,000 people expected to participate. The 16th Inter-Company Rely (ICR) has commenced and at least 1, 000 people from all walks of life are expected to take part.

Speaking at a press briefing in Lusaka, Inter-Company Rely (ICR) Chairman Elias Mpondela said that 77 companies out of the expected 125 had already confirmed their participation in the event with the theme ‘Act Now and Stops Accidents’

He adds that 400 people are expected to take part in the health walk and in the new Power race sponsored by Bata.

The Zambia Amateur Athletics Association (ZAAA) president also disclosed that this year’s ICR had for the first time in 16 years of existence introduced electronic timing which will make timing runners and totaling results easier.

 “This year the race will be one of its kinds as we have introduced an electronic timing system where participant’s time and results will be recorded automatically.”

 He further expressed gratitude to sponsors of both the adult and children’s race, saying the event would not be a success without their financial support.

And headline sponsor road transport and safety agency said it was happy to be associated with this year’s ICR as a demonstration for its commitment towards a healthy nation.

Agency director Zindaba Soko said the event was timely as it coincided with RATSA’s task of reducing accidents by 50 percent by the year 2020.

“We have a task ahead of us to reduce road traffic accidents by 50 percent by the year 2020 and therefore we all need to Act now and stop road accidents.” Soko said.

He stressed that if people acted together even in road safety matters they could win.

Among other sponsors include Airtel Zambia limited who are the sponsoring Chief Executive Officer (CEO), China Jiansu sponsoring the Children’s race, SADVIC, Multi Choice Zambia and Zambia Breweries, and the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC).

The children’s race is being held under the theme; ‘Stop Early Marriages and Child Abuse’.
