Zambia wins Baseball5 hosting bid

World Baseball Softball Confederation Africa (WBSC Africa) has granted Zambia the rights to host the Continental Baseball5 Championship, to be held from November 5 to 8, 2025.

Zambia Baseball Softball Association (ZBSA) announced in a statement that Zambia had won the bid, describing the development as a historic milestone.

ZBSA President Kenny Matishi revealed that the championship will be held at the state-of-the-art OYDC Zambia – Sports Development Centre in Lusaka.

“The tournament will bring together top Baseball5 teams from across Africa to compete for continental glory and qualification opportunities for global events,” Matishi said.

“Zambia’s successful bid highlights the nation’s commitment to developing baseball and softball, particularly the fast-paced and youth-friendly Baseball5 format.”

He added that the development marks Zambia’s growing presence on the continental sports stage and expressed gratitude to WBSC Africa for entrusting Zambia with the opportunity to host the championship.

“This is a proud moment for our country. Hosting the Continental Baseball5 Championship is not just about sport it’s about uniting youth, promoting health, and showcasing Zambia’s potential as a regional sports hub.”

“Preparations are already underway, with local organizing committees, volunteers, and stakeholders coming together to ensure a successful and memorable championship,” Mr. Matishi disclosed.

He said that OYDC is capable of providing accommodation and meals on-site to ensure a smooth experience for all participating nations.

Matishi further said the tournament is expected to attract international attention and provide a platform for Zambian athletes to shine on home soil.
