Power Dynamos launch women’s team, Power Queens

Zambian Premier League champions, Power Dynamos Football Club, will now have a women’s team named Power Queens. The club’s sponsors, Copperbelt Energy Corporation (CEC), announced the development.

In a press statement, CEC said the move is in line with ZPL requirements for all clubs to have a women’s team, stating that women’s side will operate as a subsidiary of Power Dynamos FC (PDFC).

“We are pleased to announce the birth of a women’s team within the Power Dynamos structure,” said PDFC President, Benny Simukoko.

“As a club, we are certain that the ‘Yellow Queens’ will carry on the Yellow Blood legacy and do wonders in the league they will play in.”

Simukoko revealed that trials for the women’s team will be held from July 14 to 19, 2025, at Ravens Country Club in Kitwe. He encouraged girls aged between 15 and 20 to participate and showcase their skills.

Meanwhile, Football Analyst Punchurello Chama welcomed the development, describing the initiative as timely and important.

“It is a very important initiative for Power Dynamos. This will contribute to the growth of Zambian football, particularly women’s football,” Chama said.

“One thing to note is that women’s football clubs have been mushrooming, hence there is a need to develop dedicated and conducive pitches to support the growth of the women’s game.”

He encouraged young women to take advantage of the opportunity, noting that it has the potential to transform their lives.

“Just as the Copper Queens are making waves, it is evident that football has changed their lives,” Chama said.

Power Queens Football Club is expected to make its debut in the Copperbelt Women’s League, which kicks off in August.
