Seven broadcasting stations face suspension

The Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) has suspended the broadcasting licences of five radio stations and two television stations due to their failure to pay the 2025 annual operating fees.

Acting Director General, Susen Ndumingu, said this action is in accordance with Section 22 (4) and (5)(c) of the IBA Amendment Act No. 26 of 2010, which states that a broadcasting licensee shall pay such annual fees for the broadcasting licence as may be determined by the board.

Mrs. Ndumingu explained that the Authority exhausted all the laid-down procedures outlined in the guidelines for enforcement and handling of compliance breaches.

“The IBA remains committed to ensuring compliance with the law and promoting a professional broadcasting industry that upholds accountability and sustainability,” she said in a press statement today.

Mrs Ndumingu revealed that the affected stations are from Lusaka, Copperbelt, Southern, Eastern, and Central provinces.

She warned that the seven suspended broadcasting stations risk losing operating licences for failure to settle all outstanding payments within 30 days.
