President Hichilema has warned against lawlessness after announcing the end of national mourning for sixth Republican President Edgar Lungu which termed as sensitive period.
Dr. Lungu passed away on June 5 at Mediclinic Medforum Hospital in Pretoria, South Africa, where he had gone to seek medical treatment.
President Hichilema also called on citizens to remain calm, peaceful, and united, as the country has long been known for peace during sensitive periods.
In his national address on ZNBC today, President Hichilema said the government remains open to continued engagement with the Lungu family, insisting that Dr. Lungu should be buried in Zambia.
“We have done everything possible to engage the family of our departed sixth Republican President, and we have reached a point where a clear decision has to be made,” he said.
“It is therefore correct that our sixth Republican President should be buried in Zambia with full honours, and not in any other nation.”
President Hichilema further extended condolences, emphasizing the need for a dignified remembrance of the late President.
