2,000 youths benefit from IVAG programme

Government initiative to tackle youth unemployment has yielded positive results, as over 2,000 young people are benefiting from Volunteer, Apprenticeship and Graduate (IVAG) Programme.

The programme, spearheaded by the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts(MYSA), has not only improved employability but also supported service delivery in key sectors.

Youths Minister , Elvis Nkandu revealed that over 300 youths have secured permanent employment, while many others have gained valuable work experience, technical skills and professional exposure.

“The IVAG programme has empowered youth with financial independence and promoted innovation,” Mr Nkandu said during a press briefing today.

The programme, funded jointly by the Zambian government and the United Nations Country Team led by UNDP, placed participants across all ten provinces with monthly stipends of 1,500 Kwacha each.

Mr Nkandu disclosed that the ministry plans to launch new initiatives, including a youth fellowship, a volunteerism programme, and an expanded internship framework, to reach more young people across the country.

“We are committed to empowering our youth and unlocking their potential to drive national development,”he reaffirmed.

“We pledge to contribute meaningfully to national development,” said Mr Shadreck Moonga, one of the beneficiaries.

“We are grateful for the opportunity and the confidence it has inspired in us as young Zambians.”

Mr Moonga praised the Minister’s leadership and the UN’s continued support, saying the programme represents responsive and inclusive governance.
