This was after the Zambia Police Service donated assorted cleaning materials and sanitary goods worth over K15, 000 to the CDH to help maintain and improve the sanitary conditions.
CHD Executive Director Dr. Kennedy Lishimpi said the hospital was grateful for the gesture shown by the police service and urged them to continue with the good work they had shown.
“Christmas is about giving and sharing, we see this gesture by the Zambia Police as a noble one. We encourage them to continue with this and we as the Cancer Disease Hospital are very grateful for the donation,” he said.
Meanwhile, Dr. Lishimpi said the health institution had achieved a lot in the recent years it had been in operation.
“In terms of functionality, we have achieved a lot in terms of raising awareness of cancer in the country, we managed to coordinate the establishment of screening services, managed to coordinate the implementation of vaccinations for cancer. We have also scaled up the treatment side and also the diagnostic side of cancer,” he explained.
Dr. Lishipmi was however quick to note that although the CDH had scored a lot of achievements, the institution was still faced with many challenges.
“CDH is a specialised institution that receives patients from all parts of the country. Thus we have a challenge in terms of human resource as we need skilled human resource for cancer management. We also have delicate and sophisticated cancer equipment that need optimal maintenance and not forgetting the fact that cancer medicines are expensive. Thus we need money to alleviate some of these challenges,” he said.
The executive director added that infrastructure was also a challenge the hospital was facing but explained that this was going to be a thing of the past as a 264 in patient bed cancer hospital was currently under construction.
Presenting the donation, Zambia Police Service Inspector General Stella Libomgani urged members of the public especially women to go for early cancer screening.
Ms. Libongani said the Police Service had decided to help the hospital with the donations that would help maintain and improve the sanitary conditions at the hospital.
