The National Paralympics Committee of Zambia (NCZ) has announced a wheelchair fundraising venture for its sporting activities THE National Paralympics Committee of Zambia (NCZ) has announced a wheelchair fundraising venture for its sporting activities.
The wheelchair walk which is expected to start mid-May this year will start from Kabwe and end in Lusaka over a period of 3 days.
Speaking in an interview with the Lusaka star, committee president George Gondwe said the fundraising venture was a preparatory move to raise funds for tournaments this year.
He said that the initiative would help the committee engage in various sports activities which they had been absent in the past.
“In the years back we missed some of the international activities due to financial challenges that greatly limited us,” Gondwe said.
“We have also missed the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) General Assembly and thus we feel that something can be done not to miss such important annual meetings,” he added.
The committee president further added; “We are likely going to miss the World Championship in Power lifting next month from 5th to 11th April, 2014 in Dubai because the Government is saying they will not fund the trip.”
Gondwe thus said apart from the wheel chair venture, the committee was planning to embark on other fundraising ventures in order solve their financial problems.
