Kasama District Education Board Secretary Andrew Chipili has called on communities in Kasama to support educational programs that Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) are implementing in their localities.
Mr Chipili has observed that NGOs are playing a pivotal role in supplementing government effort in the delivery of quality education to the people.
He has urged communities to support the School Readiness Initiative (SRI) which is being implemented by the Reformed Open Community Schools (ROCS) with support from the Roger Federer Foundation.
He said the program which will be implemented in 25 schools of Northern Province is aimed at securing a good start for vulnerable children in rural communities.
The District Education Board Secretary explained that there is a need for communities that have the privilege of having such programs to support the implementation.
Mr Chipili said this in Kasama yesterday during a stakeholder’s engagement meeting held at Sinamu Lodge.
He, however, expressed optimism that once implemented, the program will help improve learner performance in schools.
Meanwhile, stakeholders have pledged to support the School Readiness Initiative programme in the district.
Kasama Deputy Mayor, Osward Mukuka said the program is welcome as it will help support vulnerable children.
Mr Mukuka explained that the programme will help create an opportunity for early childhood development for the underprivileged.
