UNZA Inter-hostels football league will enhance student participation in sports-UNZASU

The league will be contested among the hostels at the institution namely Kwacha, Tiyende Pamodzi (T.P), International, Africa, Zambezi, President, Kalingalinga, President, Soweto, Mwanawasa and Vet Hostels THE University of Zambia Students Union (UNZASU) has said the introduction of University of Zambia (UNZA) inter-hostel football league will encourage students to participate in sports at the institution.

The league which began on the 8th of this February 2014  will run from terms two and three of UNZA's academic year over the weekends.

The league will be contested among the hostels at the institution namely Kwacha, Tiyende Pamodzi (T.P), International, Africa, Zambezi, President, Kalingalinga, President, Soweto, Mwanawasa and Vet Hostels.

Speaking in an interview with the Lusaka star, UNZASU sports Secretary Nasho Banda said the introduction of the league will help develop sports at the institution.

“This is the first tournament of its kind and it will help increase participation of students in various sporting activities,” he said.

“It is through this tournament that students can benefit from the sports fee that they pay,” Banda added.

Meanwhile, the sports secretary said the team that would win the league would be awarded a cash prize at the end of the season.

“A cash prize that is yet to be revealed will be given to the team that will emerge top of the league at the end of the season,” he said.

Kwacha tops the league with 3 points from one game whilst T.P is at the bottom with 0 points having also played one game.
