The student’s tennis team is not happy with the deplorable state in which sporting facilites are at the institution The University of Zambia Tennis Team (UNZA Tennis) has expressed disappointment at the neglect of sports facilities on campus.
Team Chairperson Roderick Nshimbi told the Lusaka Star that his team has no training field at the moment because the tennis court has been left unattended to for the past three years.
“We have been moving from one training place to another as we do not have a permanent training field,” Mr. Nshimbi lamented.
He said the team has resorted to joining other small clubs that train from the Barclays Sports Complex, a move that has made it even more difficult for his team members as they need transport to and from the training centre daily.
The only tennis court at the institution is situated near the transport yard and is in a deplorable state as it has been left unattended to for some time now.
Despite efforts to have the tennis court renovated, the tennis team has been facing a great challenge in meeting the required standards to train as their training centre is in dire need of rehabilitation.
Mr. Nshimbi, who is also University of Zambia Students’ Union (UNZASU) Sports Secretary, stated that the Students' Union was considering taking up the responsibility of renovating the tennis court with the help of well wishers.
He also revealed that the student body has since written a letter of concern to the UNZA Registrar with the hope that permission will be granted for the Union to begin the renovation works.
