All eyes on Copper Queens as WAFCON opener looms

The Zambia Women’s National Team will, on July 5, face the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) tournament hosts, Morocco, in what promises to be an explosive opener.

Soccer Analyst Kutela Machona noted that the Zambian players are well experienced and have the potential to beat Morocco.

“Based on previous records, the Copper Queens do have what it takes to emerge victorious in this match. What matters now is hard work, preparation, and determination.”

“The team has a good number of experienced players, including Barbara Banda, Fridah Mukoma, Rachel Nkundanji, and Lushomo Mweemba, among others,” Machona said in an interview with Lusaka Star.

He said he looks forward to seeing good results as Copper Queens coach Nora Hauptle’s side faces Morocco.

Another Soccer Analyst, Yotham Mwanza, has predicted a tough encounter for Zambia as this is not an ordinary tournament.

“The last time the Copper Queens went to the WAFCON, they attained bronze, and so now it’s time for them to get a step further and aim for silver or gold,” he said.

“We have seen a lot of preparation being done by the team. They first engaged Malawi and thereafter faced China, South Africa, and Botswana. This shows that they have had enough preparation and experience for the tournament.”

The Copper Queens are currently in Morocco, undergoing ten days of training in preparation for the tournament, with the squad comprising both international and local players.
