Hard news The Road Development Agency (RDA) has warned against the continued illegal settlement of people near roads as it is contrary to the road reserve encroachment law gazette.
Speaking in an interview with Lusaka star, RDA Public Relations Manager Loyce Saili said it was in the law gazette that people should settle 50 meters away from the white line on both sides of the road as a safety measure.
Saili said there will be no compensation for people who have settled near the road for the interest of cultivation or any other business.
Ms Saili also said that the agency was only liable to compensate victims whose lands are more than 50 meters away from the main road.
She has emphasized the need for the people who have intruded on the road reserves to vacate the area with immediate effect.
Ms Saili said this is in order to pave way for the rehabilitation of Luangwa and Mwami border roads for RDA to deliver professional and quality roads to the public.
