NATIONAL Democratic Congress (NDC) Party consultant Chishimba Kambwili has called on the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) to put the interest of the poor Zambians first this year.
Dr. Kambwili said it was time the PF government prioritized on the interest of the poor Zambians instead of enriching themselves.
He said there were a number of things that government could do to improve the standard of living as well as improving the state of the civil service.
“PF must prioritize on things that really matters this year because the hospitals in Zambia are all in deplorable state and the council workers go months without getting their salaries,” he said.
Dr. Kambwili also challenged various union leaders to reject any salary increment that was below 50 percent because it wouldn’t transmit in any meaningful income.
He said it was it did not make sense to give civil servants housing allowances that was below K1 000 Kwacha when an average house rental cost K3 000 Kwacha.
Dr. Kambwili also called on government to make a round table meeting with miners and see how best they could strike a ‘win win’ situation.
“Government cannot just wake up and tell miners to start paying 20 percent loyalties to government. Miners are there for profit so they will respond by laying off workers,” Kambwili warned.
Earlie on, Dr Kambwili explained that the alliance between the 10 opposition parties was merely a working relationship that was based on common identity.
“We have come up with 10 guidelines as opposition political parties based on mutual understanding and for now that is what is on the ground, we are not forming a coalition government but instead we have chosen to speak using one voice,” he said.
Dr. Kamwili said this during a press briefing at his woodlands residence in Lusaka today.
Chishimba Kambwili’s remarks on the alliance comes after 2 days when Patriot for Economic Progress (PEP) President Sean Tembo said the Alliance will field just one candidate in the 2021 elections.
“People have lost confidence in PF, but we have realized that we would be more effective by coming together and usher in one candidate for the 2021 elections,” Mr. Tembo said.
He further urged Zambians to support the United Front Alliance because it was the only hope of liberating Zambia from the various challenges the country was facing.
