Minister of Information and Media Hon.Cornelius Mweetwa has reaffirmed government’s commitment to promoting media freedom and professionalism in Zambia.
Speaking during a media engagement in Lusaka, he said the government values the role of the press in strengthening democracy and ensuring that citizens are well informed.
“The media is a key pillar in our democracy,as government, we are committed to creating an environment where journalists can operate freely and without fear,” he said.
Hon. Mweetwa emphasized the need for journalists to uphold ethical standards, noting that responsible reporting is essential in maintaining public trust.
“Freedom of the press must go hand in hand with responsibility. We expect the media to remain factual, balanced and professional,” he added.
Meanwhile Ministry of Information and Media Permanent Secretary Thabo Kawana said government is working to improve the flow of information to the public through enhanced communication strategies.
Mr. Kawana noted that timely and accurate dissemination of information is critical in addressing misinformation and promoting transparency.
“We are strengthening communication channels to ensure that the public has access to credible and verified information,this is important in fostering trust between government and citizens,” Mr. Kawana said.
He further urged media practitioners to collaborate with government institutions in ensuring that information reaching the public is accurate and beneficial to national development.
