Chingamire award marks Breakthrough for Kayz Adams.

Zambian artist Rodwell Charles Jr, popularly known as Kayz Adams, has described his Honorary Breakthrough Southern Africa Award at the Chingamire Awards as a major milestone for both his career and the growth of Zambian music in the region.

Speaking in an interview with Lusaka Star, Adams said the recognition presents an opportunity for Zambian artists to expand their reach across Southern Africa, noting that the awards are among the most prominent in Zimbabwe.

“This is a big move for the movement at Ndimango Music, a big move for my people, and a big move for my country at large—and for me as an artist,” he said.

He added that the recognition will open doors for more international collaborations, particularly with artists from countries such as Kenya, Malawi, and Ghana.

Adams noted that being recognised on such a platform increases visibility, as more people become interested in exploring his work.

“It’s a big inspiration for me to work extra hard,” he said.

“If I can be recognised in other countries, it means I am moving forward and the work is growing every day.”

He also revealed that he plans to release an extended play (EP) on his birthday, July 26.

Meanwhile, Lydia Mubiana, popularly known as Lukesha the Blogger, said Adams’ achievement marks a significant breakthrough for the Zambian music scene.

“In my view, Kayz Adams is the next big thing,” she said.

She added that the award highlights the need for more international collaborations to strengthen his brand and widen his audience.

Mubiana encouraged listeners to support Adams, noting that language should not be a barrier to appreciating good music.

“Many people outside Zambia may not understand his language, but that is also true for much of the foreign music we enjoy,” she said.

She emphasized that quality music transcends language, adding that the award has given Adams greater visibility and created a breakthrough moment for Zambian music on the regional stage.
