Kazadi steps back from spotlight

Celebrated Zambian filmmaker David Kazadi has officially announced his decision to step back from his role as a judge on The ICON Zambia, a local reality talent show.

In a press statement, Kazadi said he made the decision for personal reasons and to give the platform space to grow without his direct involvement.

“This is one of the most difficult chapters of my life,” he said, thanking God, his family, friends and industry partners for their support.

Kazadi explained that his silence during recent challenges was not a sign of weakness, but a way to protect his peace.

“Sometimes, standing still is the strongest response,” he shared, adding that although the time to speak will come, he believes silence is needed for certain processes to unfold.

Since the show’s launch in 2019, Kazadi has been a key figure behind its success.

He used his own resources and energy to build a platform that promotes Zambian talent in film, music, and other creative fields.

Although he admitted that the journey has not been financially rewarding, he described it as fulfilling because of his strong belief in Zambia’s creative potential.

Kazadi stressed that stepping back does not mean abandoning the show.

“THE ICON is bigger than me,” he said. “The show is in good hands, with a dedicated and talented team ready to deliver a powerful and inspiring second season.

He urged fans and contestants not to lose hope.“This is not the end of the story,” he said.

“I may be bruised but I’m not broken. And by God’s grace, I will finish what I started.”

The second season of The ICON Zambia is scheduled to premiere on Sunday, July 20, at 19:30 hours.
