Childhood trauma can follow someone into adulthood if it is not properly dealt with — Counselor warns

Zambian musician Obed Chileshe, popularly known as Chile One Mr Zambia, has revealed that despite his fame and success, he continues to carry feelings of loneliness rooted in his childhood, which is why he does not celebrate his birthday.

Speaking on the Dads Without Dads Podcast, Chile One opened up about his personal struggles, saying his childhood experiences have shaped the person he is today.

“I have never opened up about this, but even now I still have that loneliness within myself,” he said.

He said that although he can be surrounded by people, he still experiences a deep sense of loneliness.

Chile One further revealed that he has struggled to open up about his emotions, admitting that the feeling of loneliness has followed him into adulthood.

He explained that he is not naturally comfortable being around people and prefers spending time alone.

“Only when I am performing do I enjoy people’s company with fans,” Chile One said.

Meanwhile, Counselor Mercy Mukonda said painful experiences during childhood can affect people differently as they grow older.

“Childhood trauma can follow someone into adulthood if it is not properly dealt with,” she said.

“The experiences we go through as children can affect how we relate with people and how we see ourselves.”

She explained that while some people allow traumatic experiences to negatively affect their lives, others use their painful past as motivation to become stronger.

“Some people use their childhood experiences to become better and stronger, while others become worse because they are unable to deal with the pain they experienced,” she said.

Mukonda noted that it is important for people who have experienced childhood trauma to find support and healthy ways of dealing with their emotions.
