Zambia has welcomed the appointment of a Sierra Leon national as Head of the Economic, Social and Cultural Council (ECOSOCC) Secretariat, an African Union (AU) Organ to be based in Lusaka.
Zambia’s Ambassador to Ethiopia and permanent representative to the AU and Economic Commission for Africa, His Excellency Emmanuel Mwamba acknowledged the appointment of Mr. William Carew as principal coordinator for ECOSOCC.
“Mr. Carew is a well experienced officer in ECOSOCC and civil society matters, having been attached to the ECOSOCC organ within the Directorate of Citizens and Diaspora Organisations (CIDO) of the African Union for years,” Mr. Mwamba said.
Mr. Mwamba urged the AU commission and Mr. Carew to ensure the secretariat is operational and set up in Lusaka as soon as possible.
The ECOSOCC Secretariat will have full establishments of 27 posts in Lusaka and will be filled up in three years.
Zambia’s bid to host the secretariat of ECOSOCC in Lusaka was presented to the Assembly of the Heads of State and Government of the African Union during the 26th ordinary session in January, 2016 in Addis Ababa, Ethopia.
