NGOMASU is using music, drums and dance to entertain and enlighten students at the University of Zambia momentarily to ease academic pressure while fostering unity on campus.
In an interview with NGOMASU secretary general ,Bwalya Russell said the group’s mission is to provide leadership by mobilizing students through performance.
“Our goal is very simple and that’s to provide leadership. We mobilize students through music and drums and make them forget about the pressures and stresses for a short while,” Russell said.
He added that NGOMASU plays a vital role in making the university environment lively and engaging, noting that messages are more effectively communicated through songs and dances.
“It is a commitment for everyone in the group to put in their all. It’s the passion and love of it all that drives us to perform like that,” he said.
Russell explained that teamwork is central to their success, with members contributing resources and effort to execute their plans, sometimes with support from well-wishers who appreciate their work.
Meanwhile, NGOMASU member Henry said,”them performing for students is both a responsibility and a source of pride.
Henry noted that drumming is not just about entertainment but about connecting with students and energizing them during campus events.
“When we play, we want students to feel the energy and be part of something bigger. It’s about lifting their spirits,” he said.
He added that the group puts in hours of practice to perfect their routines and ensure every performance leaves a lasting impression.
Henry said seeing students respond with excitement and enthusiasm motivates the team to continue performing and improving.
Together, NGOMASU members continue to use rhythm and unity to create memorable experiences while easing the pressures of student life at UNZA.
