ZJA president calls on Zambians to appreciate the sport of Judo more

…Judo as a sport has the ability to place Zambia on the international map as it is one of the top three famous sports in the country-Foloko. THE Zambia Judo Association (ZJA) President Alfred Foloko has called on the Zambian people to appreciate the sport of Judo more.

Speaking inan interview with Lusaka Star, Mr Foloko lamented that the sport Judo is not very much cherished in the country like other sports such as soccer and boxing.

"The Zambian Judokas need appreciation and encouragement from the local people for them to keep representing the country well and with high esteem,” he said.

He said that Judo as a sport has the ability to place Zambia on the international map as it is one of the top three famous sports in the country.

Mr Foloko also appealed to the Government to support the sport of Judo like the late President Michael Sata did.

“We as an Association are very grateful to the efforts our late President Michael Sata put in, in taking the sport to higher levels. Judo was among the top five sports that he supported and it is because of him that the sport has developed tremendously over time,” Foloko said.

Mr Foloko further appealed to all judokas across the country to come and uphold the sport of Judo so that the rest of people in the country would come to appreciate it.

Meanwhile, one judokas named Kelvin Sitali said more efforts needed to be put in by the judokas themselves so that people in general would come to uphold the sport.

“I am urging my fellow judokas to train more so that we can bring home more metals by participating in various tournaments like the Olympic international games. It is only then that the local people will bring to realise the relevance of the sport,” Sitali said.
