The Higher Education Loans and Scholarships Board (HELSB) has awarded student loans to 186 first-year students at Palabana University for the 2025/2026 academic year.
In a press statement issued to Lusaka Star today, HELSB Corporate Affairs Manager Chiselwa Kawanda said this is out of 239 applicants who applied for sponsorship at the institution.
“Out of the 239 applicants, 186 were deemed eligible for sponsorship, while 53 were ineligible, representing a 78 percent to 22 perce eligible-to-ineligible applicants’ ratio,” Ms. Kawanda revealed.
“The reasons for ineligibility include completing Grade 12 before 2021, failure to attach required documents, submission of incorrect admission letters, and age.”
She further stated that among the 186 eligible applicants, 169 were from rural districts, while 17 were from urban districts.
