President of the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs, David McAllister has commended Zambia’s democratic progress and peaceful political environment.

Mr. McAllister reaffirmed the European Union’s readiness to continue supporting Zambia and other like-minded nations committed to democratic principles and good governance.

He said this in a press statement issued to the Lusaka Star today by Hambayi Munang’andu, First Secretary for Press and Public Relations at the Embassy of the Republic of Zambia in Brussels, Belgium.

Meanwhile, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mulambo Haimbe has extended an invitation to the European Union (EU) to observe the 2026 General Elections.

Mr. Haimbe made the invitation during a bilateral meeting with Mr. David McAllister on the sidelines of the African Union–European Union Ministerial Meeting being held in Brussels.

The Minister expressed Zambia’s appreciation for the EU’s role in observing the 2021 General Elections and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to upholding democratic values.

Mr. Haimbe cited recent legal reforms, including the repeal of the law on the Defamation of the President, as part of Zambia’s broader efforts to promote media freedom and safeguard civil liberties.
