Zambian musician Vincent Mwale, popularly known as Vinchenzo, has revealed that a planned collaboration with South African rapper Nasty C failed to materialize due to unforeseen circumstances.
In an interview with Lusaka Star, Vinchenzo said international projects require a higher level of professionalism, particularly in production quality and planning.
“Situations like this happen in music because artists often work under tight schedules and personal circumstances,” Vinchenzo said.
He noted that the realities of working with international artists make the process more demanding than local collaborations.
He emphasized that successful international collaborations depend on strong relationships and artistic chemistry.
Vinchenzo said, coordination can also be difficult due to differences in location, management, and budgets.
“The process demands a higher production standard and strong sound quality,” Vinchenzo said.
“Many international artists and their teams expect professional recording, mixing, and marketing plans before they agree to a feature.”
“International collaborations depend on three key factors: connection, talent, and the right vibe between artists,” he said.
“Strong relationships open doors, talent keeps the collaboration valuable, and the vibe between artists shapes the final music.”
He further said that, in many cases, Zambian artists receive fair treatment, but the outcome often depends on the people involved in the deal.
Meanwhile, Gideon Mwewa, also known as The Vocalist, urged local musicians to embrace their uniqueness when engaging in international collaborations.
“We sometimes overthink these collaborations like we have to prove too much,” he said.
“The truth is, what makes international artists interested is our uniqueness. If you bring your sound boldly, you stand out without trying too hard.”
