UPND gifts President Hakainde Hichiliema new members to the party

The United Party for National Development (UPND) through the party’s Secretary General, Hon. Batuke Imenda has received new members from the opposition parties.

Speaking at a press briefing held in Lusaka, Mr Imenda stated that the party welcomes the new members and they are a gift for his Excellency who is celebrating his 63rd birthday. ” Our friends have realised their love for the country despite the propaganda from the opposition parties” he said.

The Secretary General appealed to the general public to distinguish between lies and the truth so they can protect the country. “The coming in of new people into the party proves that the President has achieved many things for the country,” he added.

Meanwhile, Benson Mpundu, one of the founder of the Patriotic Front (PF) party being one out the four people that have moved front PF to UPND, stated that he is happy with his decision to join the UPND.

“I have joined the UPND because of the spirit of unity, love and peace that is found in the UPND,” he said.

He further highlighted that It is important for people who work together to be in unity.

Mr Mpundu thanked members of the UPND party for welcoming him and the that have joined.

Speaking at same event was Albert Manjulunji, National Executive Director for Friends of Bally, a youth mobilizing initiative said the youths must be involved in issues to do with the nation.

“That is why I rise in strong, unwavering support of the proposed Article 47 (2) (b) and Article 68 (c) in Bill number 7 of 2025 in the Laws of Zambia, a legislative step that opens the doors of parliament to our youth, and invites them not as guests, but as equals,” he said.

He added that the articel offers a framework to reserve seats for young representatives, to establish pathways for youth advisory councils, and to ensure equitable participation for those under 35.
