Construction Worker Felix kangwa revealed that most of them work without safety wear which puts their health at risk and is contrary to the laws of Zambia.
Mr Kangwa complained that he feels sick while on duty due to him working without the safety wear.
"We work without gas masks, safety boots and hand gloves. Often times, I have coughed blood because of the cement that has accumulated in my chest,"he said.
Mr. Kangwa added that working without safety boots was very dangerous as they worked with nails and other hard metals that could easily hurt them.
Another Construction Worker Matthew Bwalya said a complaint was launched to management who assured them that the safety wear, particularly the protection gear, would be provided to all workers soon.
Mr Bwalya , however, said management has not fulfilled it's promise and the workers have continued to work without proper safety wear.
“They are depending on us for their structures to be built yet they have neglected to protect our health,” he lamented.
Mr Bwalya revealed that only a few workers were provided with some of the safety wear and the workers have since called for a serious intervention from management.
Meanwhile, Safety Officer and Head of Security Anthony Kalukangu said that safety of the workers was assured.
Mr Kalukanga said safety boots, strap belts and hand gloves are provided to some of the workers.
“These workers are ever complaining as if they are the only ones in the country who are working without protection gears,” he said.
Mr Kalukangu added that the company could not afford to buy safety wear for all the workers as some are casual workers who do some manual work for a few hours.
