Poem: Snakes and Ladders

The dice is rolled; My journey of life begins; I set foot on this road. Faith carries me far enough to make me believe in a god. The dice is rolled;

My journey of life begins; I set foot on this road.

Faith carries me far enough to make me believe in a god.

I climb many ladders because of the virtues I hold.

The King in me savours the days I spend in the city of gold.

I am living a life of endless luxuries; my life will definitely be told.

I swim in pools of pride saying goodbye to my past.

My glass is always filled to the brim with lust.

Friends who helped me get to the top I shake off like dust.

I keep living for the moment like this life will forever last.

I am so obsessed with the pleasure of this world.

Such that I forget about the thorns that lay on the path initially trod.

Suddenly I am falling like Alicia; my piece placed at the bottom of the game board.

Life has rolled the dice fairly; I’ve been pierced by karmas sword;

Stripped off of my wealth, now am naked as a dressed chicken.

Accumulating wealth for ‘self’ was all I was seeking.

But for tossing away my virtues, I wouldn’t have invited a dark cloud.

Because eversince my heart was mantled with darkness its been raining hard.

One move pushed me down the belly of the snake;

Iam stuck.

Harsh realities have made me wide awake.
