THE Zambia Association of Musicians (ZAM) has called on the organising committee of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) General Assembly to consider local artists to perform during the event.
ZAM Southern Province Chairperson Chisenga Chashi told the Lusaka Star that local artists could use the UNWTO General Assembly as a platform for international recognition.
He said instead of inviting foreign artists to perform during the event, the UNWTO organising committee should consider local artists especially those from within the Southern Province of Zambia.
Meanwhile, Mr. Chashi said the organising committee should also help the association with necessary music equipment that can be used by artists.
Mr Chashi stated that on several occassions musicians are sidelined when it comes to participating in big events and that this time around musicians are supposed to benefit from the co-hosting of the UNWTO General Assembly with Zimbabwe next year.
He explained that musicians should also be the beneficiaries of the UNWTO especially that now they are part of the Tourism ministry.
Mr. Chashi has since urged local artists countrywide to work hard and use the UNWTO General Assembly as a way of penetrating through to the international scene.
