Yo Maps’ ‘Budget’ Video Sparks Morality Debate

Zambian artist Yo Maps’ new song “Budget” has ignited a national debate over artistic freedom and morality after its music video showed two women kissing.

The track, featuring Frank Ro and Dizmo, has drawn mixed reactions since its release.

While some fans praised the video as a bold step for Zambian music, others condemned it as immoral.

Social Media Influencer,Lillian Mutambo publicly called for the video to be pulled from Zambian screens, arguing that it promotes immoral behavior and degrades women.

Yo Maps, known for his fusion of Afrobeat and Zambian sounds, defended the work. He stressed that art should push boundaries and reflect the diversity of emotions and experiences in society.

This is not the first time the artist has faced backlash, his previous song, “Mulungu Pokupanga Anagwada,” also stirred debate, but the “Budget” controversy has reached a new level.

In a Facebook post, Yo Maps reflected on the criticism.

“Is this what it means to go international?” he wrote, referencing the response to “Mulungu Pokupanga Anagwada.”

He also noted Dizmo’s work and collaborations with Minister Reuben, highlighting the divide in how different types of music are received.

The debate raises broader questions about Zambian music’s place in a global context.

With each release, Yo Maps challenges what it means to be a Zambian artist in an increasingly interconnected world.
