Kojo brings campus life to UNZA stage.

The Kojo Comes to Campus event at the University of Zambia is helping students understand campus life through entertainment while reinforcing practical lessons about the university environment.

Speaking in an interview with Lusaka Star, Chairperson Mapalo Sikazwe said the initiative builds on the orientation already conducted for first-year students.

“We believe we add enough humour to the orientation process, so Kojo Comes to Campus adds life and art,” he said.

He explained that the skits are designed to guide students on how to navigate campus life.

“The main priority of the skit is to orient first years on how to live on campus,” he said. “It also enforces the existing policies around campus and reminds students to be conscious of how they deal with different people at the university.”

Sikazwe added that the performances also promote the institution’s culture.

“It encourages the prominent UNZA culture as prescribed by management,” he said.

Beyond entertainment, he noted that the production incorporates educational elements that highlight the university’s history and infrastructure.

“There is always an actual truth behind the story told by Kojo Comes to Campus,” he said, citing examples such as the design of the October Hostels, which feature 24 rooms to reflect Zambia’s Independence Day.

Secretary General Peter Tembo said the event is held annually and serves as an introduction to campus life for incoming students.

“It also introduces new students to the terms used around campus,” he said.

A student, Margaret Chanda, said the initiative helps foster a sense of belonging among students.

“This event helps students to feel part of the university community because most of the things talked about are the things that most students encounter each and every day,” she said.
