The University of Zambia Allied Workers Union (UNZAAWU) has urged students to remain committed and register their businesses with the union to ensure they operate within campus regulations.
Speaking in an interview with Lusaka Star, UNZAAWU Vice Secretary Musale Kanyata noted that students should venture into small businesses to support their livelihoods and meet the rising costs of living.
“Some students are now able to pay tuition fees through their businesses, while others use the income to support their academic needs like books,” Kanyata said.
He encouraged students to register, as the Union is currently accepting applications.
Meanwhile, Lazarous Mpundu, a Second -year Economics Student and small business owner, said that the business has helped him meet his basic everyday needs while on campus.
He said the income from the business helps cover daily expenses and reduces financial pressure that most students face.
“I am able to balance school and business through discipline and proper time management,” he said.
