Habazooka wins Junior Sportswoman of the Year

Rising Zambian swimming star has been named Zambia’s Junior Sportswoman of the Year at this year’s national sports awards.

Kira Habazooka has shown great and impressive ascents after scooping seven gold medals.

Speaking in an interview with Lusaka Star, National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) president Alfred Foloko said Habazooka’s success highlights the importance of developing young talent in the sport.

“This win is not only a major milestone for Kira but also a motivation to other young swimmers to stay focused, work hard and aspire to represent Zambia at major international competitions,” Foloko said.

He added that nurturing emerging athletes remains key to the growth of swimming in Zambia.

Meanwhile, Habazooka expressed gratitude for the recognition and pledged to continue working hard.

“I’m truly humbled and grateful for this recognition, I dedicate this award to my family, coaches and everyone who supported me on this amazing journey,” she said.
