RTSA to set up new vehicle examination facility

The new vehicle examination yard in Mimosa, (Lilayi area) will help to decongest the Ridgeway yard. THE Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) says another vehicle examination yard will be completed by the end of this year.

RTSA’s Principle Publicity Officer Mercy Mwila, said setting up another vehicle examination yard in Mimosa, (Lilayi area) will help to decongest the Ridgeway yard.

“People must note that we are not shifting from Ridgeway. We are just building another branch which will make our work easier and decongest the Ridgeway area,” she said.

Ms Mwila explained that the new examination yard will have mechanised equipment capable of determining the fitness of vehicles within a short period of time hence  clearing  more vehicles as compared to the manual process that is currently in use and is slow.

She added that the project is also aimed at decongesting other vehicle examination yards throughout the country because it will also incorporate mobile facilities with equipment which will be posted to other yards.

And Ms Mwila explained that the project has taken a long time to be implemented since its inception  two years ago because officers had to be sent out for a procurement course on how to use the new clearing equipment and a location to accommodate installation of the equipment had to be found.
